Crime in Major Missouri Cities

Statewide data only tells part of the story. Crime statistics vary widely from one city or town to another.

Missouri’s second most populous city, St. Louis, saw the highest crime rates in the state. In fact, St. Louis ranked No. 2 on the Forbes 2012 list of America’s Most Dangerous Cities.

Forbes said: “Lying directly in the path of major drug-trafficking routes, St. Louis has been plagued by murders and other violent crimes for years. The crime rate fell 4 percent last year (2011) - and it's down 50 percent from the crack epidemic days of the early 1990s - but St. Louis still ranked fourth in the nation for murders.”
